    Lien Reduction

A negotiated decrease in the amount a provider accepts from a settlement, often made when the recovery can't cover every claim in full.

A lien reduction is a discount the provider agrees to take at settlement, usually because the total of all liens, fees, and costs exceeds what the case recovered. Reductions keep deals from collapsing and leave the injured client with a fair net — but they directly cut what the provider collects.

The framework. Strong providers reduce strategically: they honor reasonable reductions when liability or coverage is genuinely limited, and hold firm on clean cases. Modeling the reduction before agreeing to it shows exactly how each dollar shifts between provider, attorney, and patient.
