    Personal InjuryPI

A legal area covering physical or psychological harm caused by another party's negligence — the foundation of lien-based medical care.

Personal injury (PI) refers to harm to a person's body or mind caused by someone else's negligence — most commonly auto accidents, slips and falls, and workplace incidents. The injured party can pursue compensation from the at-fault party or their insurer.

Why providers care. PI patients often lack health coverage for accident-related care, so providers treat on liens and letters of protection and collect from the eventual settlement. That makes the PI claim, not an insurance card, the source of payment.
