    Maximum Medical ImprovementMMI

The point at which a patient's condition has stabilized and isn't expected to improve further with treatment.

Maximum Medical Improvement (MMI) is the milestone where a patient has recovered as much as they reasonably will, even if some impairment remains. It signals that the clinical picture — and therefore the medical bills — is essentially final.

Why it drives settlements. Attorneys generally wait for MMI before sending a demand, because only then is the full cost of care known. Providers should flag any large incoming bills at least 60 days before MMI so the attorney isn't surprised at demand time.
